Wonderful house on the shore of the oldest lake in Europe, Ohrid Lake
Villa Elza is on the very shore of Lake Ohrid, in the fishermen’s neighborhood of Kaneo. In its three bedrooms on the upper floor, the house has six beds and two bathrooms. The main bedroom and the small terrace overlook the lake. The roomy, old-fashioned kitchen boasts all modern facilities, including a dishwasher and a washing machine. The large living room overlooking the lake is connected with the two terraces, the lower of the two being used as a private beach. The house has Internet and cable TV.
A five minutes’ walk of the house is the church of St. Kaneo, Ohrid’s soul, as well as the renounced cathedral of St. Sofija, in which the international cultural event – Ohrid Summer Festival – takes place every summer.
Around the house are a few small restaurants, two large and well-kept beaches and above all a friendly environment offering sightseeing by boat.
Villa Elza is the first ever weekend house in Ohrid built in 1962. It was put up by Ilija Dzuvalekovski, a famous Macedonian actor, and his wife Elza during the shooting of the first Macedonian comedy “A Quiet Summer.” Because of the special spirit of the house and its authenticity, its successors decided to name it Villa Elza. The story of Villa Elza and Kaneo of 50 years ago is shown on the stairs of the house leading to the upper floor.
